Happy Birthday E

Posted on May 30, 2011. Filed under: birthday, E, pictures |

Yesterday was E’s 1st birthday and what an amazing year it has been.  We are enamored with our little guy.  This last month has been amazing.  E started walking.  We love to watch him toddle along, crawling is still much faster, so he doesn’t walk full time, but when he does it he is so cute.  After he covers a long stretch of ground he so proud of himself.  He has also started mimicking, he copies sneezes and coughs.  It is so funny to watch him do his little fake sneeze….He lets out a little ”aaahhhh choo!” after an exaggerated head nod.  Lately has also been exerting his independent streak especially during meal time.  He only likes to eat foods that he can feed to himself.  If we try to feed him something that requires a spoon it takes 3 spoons (one for each of his hands and one for for feeder) and a lot of patience.  He also achieved some not so great firsts over the last few days.  His first big fever, his first stomach illness and his first diaper rash.  Way to finish the first year with a bang!  No worries though, by yesterday he was feeling much better and ready to celebrate his big day.  Oh, one last first.  His first jet-ski ride!!!  I don’t have pictures to prove it, but E had a great time.

Birthday boat ride on Pop’s pontoon boat.  Our little sailor was tired at his point, so didn’t enjoy the boat trip all that much.

Delicious picnic dinner with Pop, and Grandma and Grandpa Loftin.  Tiki was feeling under the weather so she wasn’t there and we all missed her dearly.

Okay, we are not stars, but for 30 minutes we felt like we were.…One of the highlights of the family vacation to NYC was our dance lesson.  J and I had a great time.  While J tended to E, I danced with the instructor.  It looks like we know what we are doing!!!

11 Months

Posted on May 4, 2011. Filed under: birthday, E |

E turned 11 months last Friday, but with our travels to the Big Apple and then attempting to get back into the swing of normal life, I’m a few days late.  That being said it is amazing to me how much E has grown and developed over the last month.  We won’t have any official stats until his one year appointment, but I’m certain he recently went through a major growth spurt.  A pair of pants that fit perfectly one week, the following week were so short on him I was embarrassed that I had brought him to school wearing them.  He literally grew overnight.  He has 3 “word” vocabulary right now that consists of,  Ma Ma, Da Da and Uh Oh.  I’m not convinced that he knows what any of them mean but he does say them regularly.  He is also beginning to understand sign language.  While tickling him he made the sign for “more” to get me to continue tickling him.  He also gets very excited when I do the signs for “milk” and “bath” so it is possible that he also knows what those mean.  He has a wonderful sense of humor and laughs often.  I love it when he plays Peek-a-Boo.  Instead of covering his whole face he usually covers one eye or his mouth.  At school his favorite activities are playing outside and art.  His major achievement is that he now stands unassisted.  He can stand for as long as 3 minutes.  While he stands he is either very proud of himself or has the “of course I can stand” attitude.  With the mouth full of teeth he has, you won’t be surprised to learn that he is a biter.  He has gotten in “trouble” as school twice for biting one of his friends.  He currently suffering from a case of separation anxiety.  The worst instance to date was with the baby-sitter while we were in New York.  Crazy as it is, 1 more month and he will be a year old!!!

The Big Apple

Posted on May 2, 2011. Filed under: travel |

In honor of Pop and Tiki’s 25 wedding anniversary we took a family trip to New York City.  E loved the fact that he didn’t have to ride in a car seat.  Here E and I are with Tiki and Pop on the drive from the airport to Time Square.

IMG_1546 I think he was very impressed with the view from our 26th floor room, he spent a lot of time standing and looking out the window.

When he got tired of sight-seeing he comfortably slept in his umbrella stroller.  This $15 stroller was worth its weight in gold.IMG_1556

While E was comfortably resting all of the big kids went to see Mary Poppins.  It was the highlight of the trip for everyone, even J was singing songs from the musical all weekend long.

Day Two….more sight seeing and modes of transportation.

First stop Wall Street… and E is already taking a nap.

Next stop….that High Line Park, an elevated train track that has been converted into a park, it was a great spot to relax and get some unique views of the city.

Then we walked to SoHo to meet the rest of the gang for lunch at Lombardi’s followed by a dance lesson at a studio owned by two of the instructors on Dancing With The Stars.  It is too bad that there aren’t any pictures of J and I dancing…you will just have to imagine that we were just like Fred and Ginger.

This couldn’t have worked out any better if we tried….we ran into our next door neighbors in the middle of Time Square.  We knew that all six of us were going to be in New York at the same time, but we did not plan to meet up….no text messages, no phone calls.  We were just walking west and they were going south and we practically walked right into each other.  Had we been any earlier or later we wouldn’t have seen them.  Too bad E was asleep for this event.

Obligatory night-time Time Square pictures.

The dryness of the air caused a lot of E’s curls to fall out, so I took it to the next level and flat ironed it.  I wasn’t completely successful because it is difficult to get an 11 month old to sit still.  Based on the outcome of the flat ironing, I’m afraid that E, might have his Grandpa Sid’s Otter Hair.

The 3 of us had a fantastic time on the trip.  We feel so blessed to have had the opportunity to spend time with our family making such wonderful memories.
