A Year in Review

It is so hard to believe that an entire year has passed.  In true household form we are going to stretch this birthday celebration out for a few more days of blogging entries.

Stats:  E had his one year appointment today he weighs 21 3/4 lbs and 29 1/2 inches tall.

After looking through these pictures, I have two major observations.  E’s smile and hair have gotten big!!

Random Thoughts and Stats

We got E a big boy car seat.  Seems to be pretty happy sitting in it, he definitely likes it more than his other car seat which was getting a little snug.  As of his 9 month appointment last week he weighs 19 pounds and is 28 inches long.  He is in the 50th percentile for height and weight but is still in the 100th percentile for hair and drool!   IMG_0590

This is one of my favorite things….the way he rubs his eyes when he is tired.  He also has a very big over exaggerated yawn, the untrained eye might think it means that he is tired, but it actually means he is bored.  The telltale sign that he is tired is when he rubs his eyes.

Look at those eyelashes!  I also love the way his nose is so scrunched up in this picture.  He is eating pineapple, it was so sweet and tart at the same time and his nose shows it.IMG_0594

Okay, sue me…yes, our son is wearing a ponytail.  Its not our fault he was blessed with this full head of locks. Sometimes he needs his hair pulled out of his face and we just can’t bring ourselves to give him his first haircut.   Anyway, I think the ponytail looks very masculine, like a sumo-wrestler or a soccer player from Brazil.

This series crakes me up.   E sees his girlfriend from across the room….crawls and until he is close enough to pull to a standing position….. IMG_0597He proceeds to hug her and then pull her down to the mat, where continues to hug and snuggle her…..she on the other hand wants nothing to do with him…..this might be E’s first experience with unrequited love.

This weekend I was feeling under the weather, so J gave me a break on Sunday morning and let me take a nap while he entertained E.  J being the brilliant and imaginative father that he is, fashioned a drippings pan into a hat for E and told E that he was a conquistador.  The title of conquistador couldn’t have been more true, he conquered all sorts of things in our house this weekend….the kitchen cabinet and drawers, our entertainment center, coffee table, bookshelf, bathroom, laundry room, mommy & daddy….all that remained was a pile of debris in his wake. IMG_0603On a funny side note this weekend we cooked amaranth for E, initially he wasn’t very pleased with it, but after we mixed a healthy amount of oatmeal in he deemed it acceptable.  Today, while doing some research I found this….”amaranth was banned by the conquistadores upon their conquest of the Aztec nation”….now his distaste for amaranth makes perfect sense.

E had his 4 month appointment last Friday.  So here are his stats.  He is 26 inches long and weighs 16 pounds.  He has almost doubled his weight in his first 4 months and looks to be on track to triple his weight by the end of his 1st year.  But even more amazing than his weight gain is his hair growth!  As you can see by the picture below, his hair just continues to get longer.  We are fairly certain he is in the 99 percentile for hair.  We are already taking bets and getting suggestions on how long we should let it grow.  J wants to let it grow until E is 3.  I think it will be down to his buttocks by then.  I’m leaning more towards the point when everyone thinks he is a girl even when wearing a blue outfit covered with trucks or dinosaurs.

Last Thursday E has his one month appointment.  He is in the 80th percentile for weight and the 75th percentile for height.  His head circumference is 15 1/8 inches, I’m not sure what percentile that is but it looks awfully big to me!  In the 28 days between his newborn and his 1 month appointments he gained 3 pounds, and weighed in at 10 3/4 lbs.  To put the weight gain into perspective, the average newborn gains between 1 1/2 and 2 lbs in their first month.  E is quickly becoming our little Michelin Man.  The growing depth of his rolls makes bath time more challenging because J really has to work to clean out each of E’s rolls.
